The Silver Wind A Cruise to the “Dark Continent”

I have been fascinated by the countries of West Africa for many years. But the logistics, safety, etc. of visiting multiple countries by land as a single lady prevented me from planning a visit there. So, when I discovered this cruise, I booked it the very first day it was announced. It’s been a long year and a half anticipating the adventure. I was on this same ship last year and loved its size, expedition staff and luxurious amenities. There were so many activities and lectures to attend, the days were filled with fun and education. I felt really pampered but without the hassle of dressing for any formal nights.

While wildlife is the highlight of East Africa, I think culture will be the highlight of my upcoming cruise. So, I am going to try writing an occasional blog about what I am experiencing. Of course I’ll still post photos on my photography Facebook page: Wilson WEST Photography. I’m sure I will still encounter some new and exciting wildlife in addition to unique landscapes and people.

But I couldn’t go to Africa without concentrating on wildlife too so have added a pre-cruise excursion to a private preserve near Kruger National Park in South Africa. And I will also be returning to Victoria Falls. When I was there last fall, it was at the end of the dry season. Now I will be there at the end of the rainy season. Will be fun to compare the amount of water coming over the falls.

So, fifteen countries over 53 days – will I want to come home? Spooky hopes so!
