Post #4 Am I Really the Only One?

One is the Loneliest Number…

I actually got a fair amount of sleep last night. Went down and had a wonderful breakfast. At 8 am a shipping company came and got my BIG suitcase (the local rep said she’s seen worse) – but 70 lbs. is all I’m allowed on Delta… Can only take 40 lbs. on Safari.

The BIG Suitcase

Mid-morning I got transferred to a private terminal to check in for my flight to Sabi Sabi. Small aircraft like I used last fall flying all over Southern Africa.

Yes, had been raining It was quite the swanky place to wait for a flight.

FedAir Terminal

Met an Australian couple who are going to a different game reserve and staying at a different place at Victoria Falls. So will see them again in Cape Town. There was supposed to be another couple on my itinerary but had to cancel at the last moment. Hope they had insurance because at this point it is 0% refund.

I loaded up with 4 people going to another place. We waited nearly an hour to finally take off. Had an hour flight to our first stop. The 4 got off and 4 others got on. I was able to get off for a few minutes and say goodbye to my morning coffee – thank goodness. Then a 5-minute flight to Sabi Sabi. I got off and 5 more got on. I’ll tell you more about this preserve tomorrow when I have the afternoon free.

So, not only am I the only one on this trip with SilverSea – I AM THE ONLY GUEST AT THIS LODGE!! It only has 6 cabins so never had more than 12 but just 1??

Finally sat down for some lunch at 2:30 pm. High tea was at 3:30 and I told them it would be silly for me to have that. I needed to get to my cabin, put my camera together and get ready for a 4 pm safari.

I had the whole safari vehicle to myself with the driver and the tracker.

Not a whole lot of game but is green and lush everywhere.

We did find a large pride of lions being very lazy sleeping in the grass. One of the mothers is not very good. The driver said she originally had 4 cubs, last week she had 3 and today she only had one. It was skin and bones and covered with sores so don’t think it will last much longer.

Had our Sundowner drink then made our way back to the lodge. The dinner (for just me) was incredible. Four course meal with 3-4 options for every course. I had smoked salmon, sweet corn soup (could have made a meal of just that) and 2 of the biggest, juiciest lamb chops cooked to perfection. Dessert of the day (or could have 3 kinds of ice cream) was a salted caramel cheesecake – so good. Finished it off with a little Amarula (like an African Baileys) over ice.

Dessert

Cabin is gorgeous, even has air conditioning. Has a bathtub, an indoor shower and an outdoor shower. And, WiFi in the room!

Really roughing it!

So, going to put a few cell phone pics in here and calling it a day. Camera pictures to come later.
